Hotel Feature: The Pendry, San Diego, CA

The design is flawless and gorgeous from the lobby to restaurants, rooms, bars to pool.  The front desk staff and valet team extremely helpful and offer perfect service. The style is very hip, but elegant and sophisticated like a Montage. It is not like any other hotels in the area.

*Keep in mind that my review occurs merely one week after the hotel officially opened. I always like to give hotels one year to iron out any kinks.

Location: Can’t beat it, right at the edge of Gaslamp, just past loudest bars/restaurants. Walking distance to convention center/waterfront.  3 blocks from PETCO park and 3 blocks from the Convention Center.

DINING OPTIONS AT THE PENDRY

Provisional is a beautiful spot for dinner/lunch/breakfast.

Lionfish. They have mezzanine level for entertaining.

Fifth & Rose – This lobby bar offers craft cocktails and beer.  It’s small and intimate. You can enter from street. Cocktails are $15+.

Neson’s beer Hall is a fun, pretty hip sports bar with beer pong table and open doors/windows for breezy seating. They anticipate this will be a crowded spot during Padres season.

The Pool House– We had guacamole and a coconut ceviche and the food is great for poolside fare. They have an extensive wine and cocktail list, beers were limited and mostly domestic, which is surprising for San Diego.

AMENITIES & ACTIVITIES AT THE PENDRY

Pool- When I was here it was a total scene, I imagined they would end up competing with Hard Rock for Vegas Style pool parties. The service was atrocious – they forgot drink orders, took 30 minutes to deliver, and then blamed us for moving locations around the pool. As previously mentioned, I always give hotels one year after opening to work out any kinks. The bar closes by 6 p.m. and there is a separate elevator from street level for pool party guests. I saw some kids, but with the music and booze, I can’t imagine this being the most kid-friendly option.

Spa Pendry- There are only a few treatment rooms with a nice outdoor lounge and the locker/waiting rooms are cozy. There is a steam room, but no sauna. It is on the same level as pool but far away enough from blaring music.

Fitness Center– this is open 24 hours

Pet friendly– dogs are everywhere! We even saw a few lounging poolside.

They also have a mini art gallery near the lobby with rotating artists!

We went to Oxford Social Club (their nightclub that opens at 10 p.m.)—hotel guests get in for free ( no $20 cover charge) and can get in the guest list line cutting down the wait time significantly. Bottle service available for tables, otherwise standing room.

ROOMS

The décor is beautiful from the custom furniture to the wallpaper to the light fixtures. The bed is AMAZING. This wasn’t obvious to me. Shower is right next to the bed and glass/see-through in the King rooms, so beware if sharing with friends. There is a curtain, but still it’s close quarters.
The suites are the real stunners, with huge ceilings and corner views. Perfect for anyone in entertainment, or hosting business clientele.
