Primland Resort, Virgina
By Annie Chambers
Primland, an Auberge Resort in Virgina
Located in southern Virginia, this 12,000 acre oasis is completely secluded and an idea setting for activities like hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATV adventures, kayaking and more. The Highland Course is a golfers delight with Mountain views on every hole.
Recently taken over by the global resort brand Auberge, I’m very excited to see how the property will grow under this brand. Some Auberge favorites include Malliouhana in Anguilla, Esperanza in Cabo, the icononic Auberge du Soleil in Napa, Blue Sky Lodge in Utah, The Madeline in Telluride and Hotel Jerome in Telluride. New England favorites are White Barn Inn in Maine and the Mayflower in Connecticut. And don’t forget about Commodore Perry Estate in Austin!
From the entrance gate, you take a 20-minute drive to the top of the mountain where the lodge is. That drive disconnected us and helped us jump into mountain time. We put down our phones and I actually dated my husband at the lovely fine-dining restaurant called Elements. They have a new chef who is having fun playing with local ingredients and a new smoker machine! The lobster Mac n cheese & buttermilk fried quail were perfection! You can find southern favorites like pimento cheese, deviled eggs, trout and brisket on the menu.
I could go on and on about the accommodations- they range from lodge rooms & suites to different types of cottages, mountain homes and even tree houses! Just ask me and I’ll tell you which will be best for your trip.
I love Primland for a guys golf trip, couples getaway, family summer vacation, or a corporate retreat. Best airports are CLT or GSO in North Carolina. Great stop for leaf- peeping season along the Blue Ridge Parkway!
