Checking In: The Winnetu in Martha’s Vineyard

The Winnetu is known for families. How does it deliver on that promise in practice?

Iwas so impressed by the thoughtful (complimentary!) kids programming the hotel offers. It’s not a room that your kids go and play video games in for a few hours. The program is for ages is for ages 3 (potty-trained) to 12 and is seasonally open during the summer.

Each day offers a different educational experience that often incorporates field trips to nearby local beaches, animal farms, etc… almost like a day camp! It So, you can have peace of mind that your kids are having an awesome experience while you take some much-needed “me” time either alone or as a couple.

If you want to have a dinner date or dinner with friends sans kids, they also offer evening programming, movie nights, etc. that includes dinner for the kids too! An amazing amenity offered by the hotel!

Describe the South Shore setting and beach situation specifically — what does it actually look like?

The resort is located about 10 minutes from the main town of Edgartown and the hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to/from. It’s a peaceful location directly across from the island’s best beach, South Beach, a quick 3 minute walk from the resort along a very charming beach path. As it’s a state beach, there is no beach service provided, however each room comes with beach chairs and the hotel offers everything you need from towels, sand toys, umbrellas, etc. so you don’t have to worry about bringing all your beach equipment from home. The beach is also an awesome spot to watch the sunset!

The beach itself is a beautiful sandy beach with some of the best sand! If you have little and want calmer water –you can also go to State Beach.

What’s the best room, suite, or cottage category, and what makes it worth it?

The one-bedroom suites are perfect for families. They have a creative room configuration that minimizes the need for booking a second room. There are also options for private home rentals (2-4 beds) on property as well as cottages at the resort that are very charming. They have full kitchens, outdoor grills and outdoor showers, too!

Best included amenity or experience at the Winnetu?

The kids program and complimentary shuttle service! We also did a private kayaking experience, which I’d highly recommend!

Also another great amenity – the Winnetu (and all Little Gem properties) offers an on-site laundry room. A luxury every parent can appreciate.

Best dining – at the resort or a spot nearby you’d recommend?

My favorite dinner was a classic spot on the water called Home Port. Take a drink down to the beach after for amazing sunset views! Must do the clam bake at the resort.

Compared to other MV stays, what makes Winnetu genuinely special?

Who is Winnetu best for, and at what time of year?

Best for families – both multi-generational and young families. The best time to visit is mid-May thru early October. Make sure to book your ferry early for the summer- it will sell out!
