Hotel Feature: Mount Juliet, Kilkenny, Ireland

Mount Juliet Estate is an elegant Georgian-era country house, located outside the city of Kilkenny, Ireland. Pulling off the road onto the tree-lined long driveway you pass a hole on the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.  Accommodations range from more modern to classic in the newly-built Hunter’s Yard and the Manor House.

Mount Juliet was a family home until 1989. This is an ideal weekend getaway for couples or family vacations.  Mount Juliet is a tranquil haven, yet has plenty of activities for those who can’t sit still like fishing, riding, golfing, archery, falconry. The kids club keeps children of all ages entertained.

Our favorite activities were a guided tour of the manor house to really soak up the history and heritage of the property and seeing the Irish hounds.

Mount Juliet Dining Options

There are three distinctive restaurants with settings ranging from casual to stylishly sophisticated

Lady Helen Restaurant is the fine dining option with one Michelin Star. This is where we ate breakfast and it was truly a top-notch dining experience. The menu consists of dishes made using local ingredients from their own kitchen garden, herb garden and farm.

The Hound  is a warm, inviting, ‘one-size-fits-all’ place to eat. It’s welcoming, it’s informal, it’s child friendly.

Saddle Bar we enjoyed this newly-opened and very posh dining establishment for dinner. Located in Hunter’s Yard, where you’ll find new rooms in a more modern style.

Afternoon Tea at the Manor House is an experience to be savored. Served daily from 1pm to 5pm in the Major’s Bar or the Tetrarch Lounge.

Mount Juliet Accommodation Options

There are 32 rooms in the main Manor House  (classic style)  and 93 in the Hunter’s Yard (modern style). Tip: book a River View room or suite for the full Georgian Manor experience.
