Cinco de Mayo & Mexico Foodie Tours

By Annie Chambers

Don’t get me wrong, I love margaritas and guacamole more than most.  However, I dug into actual the history of Cinco de Mayo this year. May 5, 1862 commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla. The day is celebrated with parades, food, music, folkloric dancing, and battle reenactments.

There’s no doubt we love the beaches of Tulum, Punta Mita, and Cabo. But…have you considered the other states of Mexico?

A great food & drink trip can include Mexico City, Puebla, San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca. You will be able to taste food from some of the most celebrated chefs in the world in Mexico City, and visit the cultural sites and local markets. We’ll be sure you get into Pujol for the Mole Madre!

Puebla also offers an amazing food scene from a walk through the local market to a perfectly selected wine tasting. Enjoy the archaeological ruins, villages of artisans and a chocolate tasting class in Oaxaca.

Mexcal and tequila lovers will love visits to one of my favorite places in San Miguel de Allende (Casa Dragones, the smoothest tequila in all the lands) and visits to two small towns with authentic mezcal distilleries. Lastly, you’ll take part in a regional cooking class with a local Zapotec family.
