Hotel Feature: Rosewood Mayakoba

By Annie Chambers

Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Mexico is one of my personal favorite properties. When I was able to stay here during a conference, I enjoyed riding my bike to the beach, found so many unique local artisan goodies to bring home at their shop, and loved my personal plunge pool overlooking the lagoon. Every night I’d look forward to my private butler drawing me a bath after returning from a long day of meetings.

This property is especially great for families; there are multi-bed villa options and an awesome kids club full of creative activities like Mayan storytelling and an eco-scavenger hunt. They also offer a really fun electric boat shuttle to the other resorts in the Mayakoba complex, Banyan Tree and Fairmont.

Dining

Casa del Lago

Poolside Casa del Lago overlooks a lagoon and serves delicious Central Mexican traditional style breakfast—the multiple styles of huevos rancheros are amazing.

La Ceiba Garden & Kitchen

A really unique and memorable option is al fresco La Ceiba Garden & Kitchen, where you can try seasonal Mexican dishes family-style while also interacting in cooking demonstrations and tastings with the resort’s culinary staff. A recent Crafted Escapes client wrote me with glowing reviews of this experience!

Our trip was magnificent!!!  Rosewood did an incredible job of anticipating every single need… and more!  Their hospitality is over the top!  The food was incredible, the room plush, the spa was dreamy… we had the absolute best time!  A highlight was La Ceiba dinner!  I will attach some photos- no one should miss this dinner while at RW Mayakoba.  I love that so many resort employees got to sit down and dine with us… we left with many new friends!

Recreation

The resort’s championship 18-hole course is lush and tropical, and though the property is large, golf cart shuttles are available in minutes. The Kids Club is very fun offering yoga classes, scavenger hunts, pizza and cookie-making classes, and Spanish lessons. The spa even has kids massages and facials.

Dive, snorkel, paddleboard, or kayak from the resort, or try out a hydrobike! We love taking out the electric boats on the mangrove lagoon for a cruise.

We also enjoyed the hydrobikes- we saw alligators, great blue heron, Coati, marlin, turtles and more! We did boat over to Banyan Tree’s Saffron restaurant which was a fun deviation and delicious dinner.

Accomodations

There are only 129 suites and villas on property. The vibe is secluded, spacious and blending with nature.

Lagoon suites

shaded, secluded, these suites are spacious and offer plunge pools overlooking the lagoon. We love the deep, circular soaking tubs and rain showers.

There are oceanfront, literal walk onto the beach, suites and overwater suites plunging out over the top of the lagoon. Two-storey suites with rooftops, and more!

Residences and Villas (Ranging From 2 to 6 Beds)

For the whole family, consider the 6-bed villa– travelers wishing to truly get away from it all, The Founder’s Villa will offer an escape unlike any other in Mexico. Situated within the gates of Rosewood Mayakoba yet strategically set apart, this villa encompasses guests in a luxurious sanctum of relaxation, privacy and refinement. This beachfront villa has 16,300 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space, including six bedrooms with dual master suites, seven full baths plus one half-bath, a media room, and a convertible office suite. Abundant outdoor features include an open-air courtyard, a 92-foot infinity-edge pool, an oceanside lounging and dining area with a fire pit, and nature’s most rejuvenating creation—an unspoiled 131-foot stretch of Riviera Maya’s white sand beach. For added revitalization, a private fitness center is onsite.
